Service Description:

A Streetworker’s mission has three overall missions: first off, to connect those young people most overlooked to the services they may be in need of through intensive street outreach; secondly, to provide crisis intervention and advocacy services on an on-call basis; and thirdly, to develop a peacemaking process between those youth that are most often involved in street violence.

Specific Responsibilities

• Provide weekly supervision and program development to UTEC’s Streetworker team
• Facilitate streetworker staff meeting
• Provide performance evaluations every six months
• Build and implements and ongoing training system for streetworker team
• Build partnerships within the community and increase the number of collaborative programs with other youth agencies
• Keep track of and approve biweekly time sheets
• Act as point person for all referrals
• Responsible for the overall supervision of the Streetworker budget
• Assume weekly street outreach responsibilities as part of overall team
• Provide monthly and other periodic reports
• Provide senior leadership within the overall running of the center
• Reach out to and engage runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth in the Lowell community by developing a sustained presence on the streets
• Provide crisis intervention, intensive case management and follow-up services. Crisis intervention provided on a regular, 24/7 on-call basis
• Refer youth to best access various other community supports (i.e. substance abuse counseling, medical care, access to health insurance, etc.)
• Participate in weekly staff meetings
• Complete required paperwork
• Attend Quarterly retreats and other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environment; flexibility to work hours as program needs change; ability to provide own transportation; associates degree preferred/equivalent outreach experience accepted; bi-lingual/bi-cultural (Southeast Asian, Latino/a) preferred; significant experience working with young people; strong leadership, organizing & facilitation skills; strong comfort level in approaching teens in various different situations; ability to laugh at oneself a must.
