TRANSITIONAL EMPLOYMENT WORK CREW SUPERVISOR (20-25 HRS):
The Transitional Employment Work Crew Supervisor will be a part time position that may lead to full time pending funding. The Crew Supervisor will be in charge of a work crew of 7 young adults doing basic maintenance/cleaning work. S/he will participate and facilitate in opening and closing circles at the beginning and end of the day. The Crew Supervisor shall enthusiastically and supportively motivate young people to build confidence during the work day. S/he will also be responsible for transporting the crew from UTEC to work sites in the community and back to UTEC at the end of the working day.
ABOUT TRANSITIONAL EMPLOYMENT:
The Transitional Employment Program works with very high-risk youth and young adults, ages 16-24, who do not connect to, engage in and /or succeed in work, training programs, or education. The Transitional Employment Project is a workforce development/public safety program, offering real work experience and job development support, in order to increase each employee’s ability to obtain and sustain meaningful, unsubsidized employment – allowing them to live out of harm’s way and move towards economic independence.
The Transitional Employment Project provides its employees with an opportunity to learn to work by working. As employees progress through phases of the project, they will receive in depth training, work experience, skill development and personal and career counseling.
Using a line of sight, work crew model, Transitional Employment Project employees will be assigned to a work crew, which will include seven young people and one crew supervisor. Young people will be engaged in work in the areas of cleaning, painting, maintenance, snow removal, landscaping and other similar tasks.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have passion for working with “at-risk” teens and young adults. Experience in working maintenance, painting, landscaping or any other trade; bi-lingual preferred; previous experience working with young people; strong leadership & facilitation skills; ability to provide own transportation; strong comfort level in approaching and engaging teens in various situations; ability to laugh at oneself a must.
Compensation : Mid-High 20’s, based on experience.
